This rests on your legs being “directly connecting flights”. In practice that means one booking — two separately bought tickets are two contracts, and a missed self-transfer between them is generally not protected. The Regulation does not spell out the single-ticket point in those words; it follows from the definition.
- ARTICLE 5(3)
The extraordinary-circumstances defence still applies. If the first leg was delayed by something outside the airline’s control, no fixed compensation is due.
